Message from the President - 2014
CORPORATE

When Henry Ford introduced in 1908 the first mass-produced automobile called the “Model T”, it literally revolutionized the automobile industry by bringing the price of car within reach of the common middle-class American. Ford designed his Model T to
run on either ethanol or gasoline, and envisioned a day when the Industrial Revolution would benefit the rural landowner by relying the industry’s growth on agriculture to provide a sustainable, renewable and controllable ethanol fuel. However that idea was replaced, mainly because of the Prohibition which made the production or transportation of alcohol illegal and the petroleum industrialists who saw the opportunities to use inexpensive and abundant oil as fuel. PURTHANOL believes it is possible to contribute positively on reversing global warming and deforestation by introducing its innovative, yet simple concept: to truly develop a sustainable, renewable and controllable fuel from the agriculture of sweet sorghum and sweet pearl millet using a decentralized model of small distilleries installed near farmland. Furthermore, our concept is based on making a 50% ethanol and 50% water blend that we called Athanol™ which then be sold to big refineries for higher purification for ethanol fuel market. We believe that this concept will provide a sustainable clean energy, and create social and economic benefits to fuel the growth and the future of our world.
Today, we are living with the resulting problems. The effect of burning fossil fuels for more than a century has profoundly affected the health of the Earth and has resulted in global warming, pollution and what will replace fossil fuels will make a big difference in our environment and economy.environmental catastrophes. This requires alternative solutions but

Corporate Milestones
With the acquisition of Biocardel Quebec earlier this year, Purthanol has added biodiesel production to our existing suite of products, complimenting nicely our existing ethanol production business. The product made from the trans-esterification of

products, complimenting nicely our existing ethanol production business. The product made from the trans-esterification of vegetable oils is called biodiesel or methyl ester. Although some media attention has been paid to using vegetable oils in diesel motors, biodiesel is a different product. The process removes and breaks larger and more viscous glycerol ester molecules that do not combust well in modern diesel engines. Biodiesel in the 21st century has moved out of experimental and niche markets and into the mainstream. It can be used in any diesel vehicle in pure form or blended in any proportion with regular petro-diesel. In 2001 the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) created the new standard for biodiesel, paving the way for car manufacturers to have consistent biodiesel to test in their diesel engines.
Purthanol’s strategic goal in our biodiesel division is to become the leading supplier of biodiesel in both eastern Canada, the north-eastern US, and Western Europe. Our Richmond production facility, with initial production capacity of 40 million litres and growing to 160 million liters in the third year, will service the eastern Canada and north-eastern US market adequately.
At Purthanol, we run our business in accordance with the Green Initiative, following its vital principles:
-
Respect and care about community of life, because we bring a renewable and inexhaustible supply of energy to our society;
-
Ecological integrity, because our product is ecologically safe, and we recycle what is otherwise waste product;
-
Social and economic justice, because our production process creates additional labor locally and within the community.
